In the 50th Year of our parish and only a few weeks following our 50th Anniversary Mass and Banquet, we are excited to celebrate the sacrament of confirmation. Through Bishop McGrattan, with the assistance of Fr. Vincent and Fr. Gabriel, 31 youth and 4 adult candidates were confirmed at the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, October 21, 2017.
In his homily, Bishop McGrattan spoke about the letters that the candidates wrote to him, telling of their desire to be confirmed and what they did to prepare for the sacrament of confirmation. Bishop McGrattan also referred to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, reverence, and wonder and awe. Along with these gifts, he explained that our confirmed candidates also receive the twelve fruits of the Holy Spirit: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control and chastity.
It is through this support of the Holy Spirit that we are called upon to serve God.
Sincerest appreciation is extended to all those who played a part in Confirmation 2017. Numerous people were crucial to the success of this holy celebration. We are most grateful for the dedicated participation of the candidates, their families, and their sponsors. The candidates have been preparing for the sacrament of confirmation since June 2017, culminating in the Confirmation Retreat on October 1st led by the Diocesan Youth Retreat Team. Without the support of the parish staff and their numerous volunteers, the Confirmation Program could not have been possible. Many ministries were involved in supporting a truly memorable time for our confirmed candidates. We thank the many volunteers who assisted with the liturgy, music, hospitality, decorating, and sacramental preparation ministries. Your commitment, time, and efforts are a blessing.
Thank you to all.
