Congratulations to our First Reconciliation candidates. They completed their exploration of the sacrament last weekend and were excited, not to mention a little nervous, to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time on Saturday, May 13, 2017.
During Mass, Fr. Gabriel spoke about the importance of this Mother's Day weekend as an opportunity to remember Mary who is mother to all of us. He referred to the centennial celebration of Our Lady of Fatima and highlighted the importance of the events in Portugal with Pope Francis. Fr. Gabriel explained that we honour Mary and ask her to intercede for us. At the same time, he urged us all to "let our hearts not be troubled" and instead believe in God and He will see us through. He encouraged our young candidates to welcome the opportunity to be reconciled with God and with each other. At the end of Mass, the children honoured Mary with flowers sponsored by the Light of Jesus while the congregation joined in singing "Our Lady of Fatima."
Following Mass, the 16 candidates received the Sacrament of Reconciliation from either Fr. Gabriel or Fr. Paolos. We are grateful to both for their gentle support of our youth. The evening culminated with a reception for the families. We are also very grateful to Colomba, Francesca, and Rachel for their preparation of the candidates and organizing the the evening's events.
