Easter is a call to new life!
At the Easter Vigil Mass, Fr. Vincent and Fr. Gabriel were joined by Deacon Michael, Diocesan Coordinator of Pastoral Care. Together with the parishioners of Canadian Martyrs and amidst the snowy, chilly weather, there was a celebration of light, renewal, and transformation. Also a highlight for young and old was the ringing of the bells.
During his homily, Fr. Vincent explained that it is up to each of us to be the people of the resurrection and live fully alive, here and now. He recalled the words of a Michael Buble song: it's a new dawn; it's a new day; it's a new life for me; and I'm feelin' good!
Fr. Vincent reminded us that today is the first opportunity to live our new transformation, to liberate each other by offering to be with someone in joy, in sadness, in suffering, and in anxiety. It is important to know that someone is with us and loves us -- no matter what. We all need someone who is just there. He asked us: who is that one person who needs us to be with him or with her? Fr. Vincent concluded with the following words,
"On behalf of Fr. Gabriel and Fr. Paolus, may the peace of Christ be with you and may you know that we are with you."
Along with a joyous Christian rendition of Hallelujah (based on the original song by L. Cohen), a treat for the children who have been giving to the Holy Childhood Fund, and the distribution of Holy Water to each family, all were invited to join in fellowship in the Brebeuf room following Mass .
Fr. Vincent thanked all those who assisted in making the Holy Week and Easter Celebrations an experience of reflection, peace, and joy.
